Description

This presentation introduces Apeñ Muchik, a situated linguistic-educational method that I developed for the revitalization of the Mochica language in the Lambayeque region of northern Peru. Apeñ Muchik is not a single book, but an integrated pedagogical framework that translates philological and linguistic research into teaching materials for school and community settings.

I situate the method within my research on Mochica based on colonial sources and show how linguistic analysis informs pedagogical choices. The presentation outlines the main components of the method, including an illustrated learning book, a teacher’s manual, complementary didactic materials such as a memory card game, and shared digital resources with audio support.

I also discuss the implementation and outcomes of the project, focusing on teacher training workshops, classroom use, and collaboration with regional educational authorities and local educators. Concrete results include the free distribution of materials to schools, their sustained use in classrooms, and active community engagement.

Overall, the presentation reflects on language revitalization as a research-based and socially situated process, emphasizing the importance of culturally grounded pedagogical methods in the recovery of ancestral languages.
