Description

This presentation introduces Apeñ muchik, a situated linguistic-educational method for the revitalization of Mochica in the Lambayeque region of northern Peru. The method is grounded in in-depth linguistic knowledge of Mochica and transforms this expertise into mediated pedagogical practices implemented in school and community contexts.
In 2025, supported by competitive university social responsibility funding, the project achieved verifiable educational and cultural impact, including the distribution of teaching materials to regional schools, the publication of an open-access teacher’s manual, the development of playful learning tools, and the launch of audio resources to support pronunciation and autonomous learning.
Developed in close collaboration with the Regional Directorate of Education of Lambayeque and the Universidad Nacional Pedro Ruiz Gallo, the project also included teacher training and classroom accompaniment. The presentation discusses the methodological principles of Apeñ muchik, lessons learned from institutional collaboration, and future steps for sustainable language revitalization in Lambayeque.
