Intercultural pedagogical materials: Between research and teaching practice experiences with Apeñ Muchik in Lambayeque

Activity: Talk or presentationInvited talk

Description

In this presentation, I discuss the development and implementation of intercultural pedagogical materials for the reclamation of the Mochica language in the Lambayeque region, focusing on the Apeñ Muchik teaching method.

I highlight the process of translating philological and linguistic research based on colonial sources into classroom-oriented materials designed for local educational contexts.

I outline the principles of the method, which introduces vocabulary and grammatical structures progressively and in a culturally grounded way, and presents the different components of the project, including an illustrated learning book, a teacher’s manual, complementary didactic games, and digital audio resources. Particular attention is given to classroom experiences, teacher training workshops, and school visits carried out in collaboration with local institutions.

Overall, the presentation reflects on the role of research-based materials in intercultural education and on the importance of mediating between academic knowledge and teaching practice in community-based language revitalization efforts.
