Abstract
The European freight transport network is often subjected to disruptive events of various dimensions. This research explores ways in which the resilience of transport networks can be increased in the face of disruptions. This study analyses two disruptions: the Rhine drought of 2022 and the port strikes in Finland in 2024. The purpose of this study is to highlight the existing resilience of the transport network, and to identify potential new ways to increase resilience. To minimize the impact and prevent cascading disruptions, the role of transport multimodality and societal resilience as moderating factors is explored.
