Abstract
The purpose of this article is to present, analyse, and discuss knowledge management practices in the research network of Finnish defence governance. Our theoretical framework is a combination of knowledge management and organizational learning within public organizations. We gathered our data through semi-structured interviews, participant observation, and document analysis and analysed it with qualitative content analysis. Key contributions of this article are 1) identification of the research network, 2) presenting the research planning process, 3) analysis of various knowledge interests, and 4) identification of three dominant ways of understanding the nature of research within the network. Our conclusion is that research is managed rather traditionally, leading to significant underuse of research potential.
