Abstract

Paula Johnson, the Head of the Product Development Center (PDC) of Advanced Technologies Systems in Shanghai had been in China for five months. She was the first person in the Product Development Center when she arrived in Shanghai in April 2018. Thinking back over the period she had spent in China so far, she felt that things had gone quite well. The PDC was now up and running, and today, on September 12, 2018, Paula welcomed its 16th employee. Her vision was to create a world-class PDC in Shanghai, but how to do that in a country that traditionally had been a recipient of technological know-how from abroad, and what measures should be taken to convince other parts of Advanced Technologies Systems to engage in joint development projects with the PDC?
