Abstract

We engaged in an explorative design science project with a heavy aircraft maintenance organization and find that improvement of operations with
operator autonomy is contingent on the right mechanism for governing the management-shop floor employee relationship. Based on our findings we
elaborate on extending agency theory into the shop floor.
