Abstract

Cooperation between competitors is complex due to the continuous tension between cooperation and competition. Some potential advantages from cooperation are access to valuable information and new markets. On the other hand there is a constant risk of problems such as opportunism and mistrust. The purpose of the article is to explore problems in cooperation between competitors and the empirical part is based on results from a mail survey to 345 SMEs in Ostrobothnia, Finland. The most frequently mentioned problems are opportunism, competition, transfer of information, dependence, asymmetry and that the need for cooperation ends.
