Abstract

This chapter sets the scene for our interdisciplinary book. The book critically examines conventional approaches to sustainability and shows how different actors can organise in multiple ways for transformative action towards sustainable outcomes, as expressed in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This chapter discusses sustainability challenges that humankind faces and suggests responsible organising as a way to approach these challenges. The threefold focus of the book is introduced: rethinking responsibility, challenging inequalities, and engaging with the nonhuman world.
