Projektinformation

Beskrivning

Joint project between Hanken and the University of the Western Cape (with participation of University of Capetown, Stellenbosch University, UNISA and South African Medical Research Council), co-funded by the Academy of Finland and the National Research Foundation of South Africa.

This collaborative cross-country project aims to bring together researchers and practitioners working with young people on issues of (1) gender and sexuality, and more specifically masculinity; (2) violence; (3) income, racial, cultural, gender/sexual, health, age/generation, and other forms of social (in)equality; and (4) social well-being among young people in Finland and South Africa. These issues are considered as mutually intertwined and productive of each other. The project is intended to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to engage in dialogue, collaborate on research, and author publications on these topics. The project also incorporates a qualitative fieldwork-based study in which researchers/postgraduate students produce a critical analysis of programmatic work and document innovative and ‘best practices’. The project includes a total of four workshops and conferences at the two research sites, and online workshops. Planned research outputs include book chapters, and articles in special editions of journals in both countries.
