Creating a corpus of student writing in economics: structure and representativeness

Sammanfattning

This paper reports the on-going compilation of an economics learner corpus, Hanken Corpus of Academic Written English for Economics. The corpus is a joint effort shared by Hanken School of Economics and University of Helsinki, and the intention is to create a research and teaching resource with a focus on economics student writing. The paper argues for the need of such corpus, and discusses the issues of the compilation work. Annotation and tagging of the corpus are also introduced, and they are illustrated by examples from the actual corpus files.
