Organizations are under varied and increasing pressure from a broad spectrum of stakeholders to incorporate sustainability measures into their supply chain management practices. To respond to this call, academic research on sustainable supply chain design and management has seen substantial development over the past two decades and. Most efforts to achieve supply chain sustainability have been predominantly directed at reducing the environmental burdens of the supply chain, commonly measured in terms of greenhouse gas emissions and resource consumption. The social sustainability aspect has focused more on the potential damage to human health, community, or society at large.
