Sammanfattning

Objectives
This article provides an in-depth understanding of the history of Mindfulness and identifies trends in the papers the journal has published to date. Specifically, the article analyzes indicators that measure the nature of the scientific output of Mindfulness, by investigating the following metrics: characteristics of articles; thematic areas; characteristics of samples and methods; most recurring variables; nature of authorship; most prolific authors; and most influential articles and countries.
Methods
The study was conducted with the use of bibliometric analysis tools. The analysis began with a review of all articles published in Mindfulness between March 2010 and March 2019, in addition to articles available online but not yet assigned to an issue. Post-hoc inspections were also performed with the use of integrated machine learning algorithms.
Results
There is an increase in the proportion of empirical studies, and psychology is the most explored field of study. There is also an intensification of more rigorous research designs and methods. Different segments of society are gaining representation in the samples investigated, and sample sizes have been increasing over the years. Mindfulness is the most recurring predictor variable, but no one single outcome variable stands out. The trend is away from single-authored articles, and the geographic distribution of Mindfulness’ articles has widened over time. Yet, a core of frequently published authors consistently select Mindfulness as the medium for mobilizing their research.
Conclusion
Taken together, results show that Mindfulness is constantly growing as a reputable source of scholarly, rigorous scientific research in its domain.
