Sammanfattning

This chapter discusses non-profit organisations (NPOs) that collect post-use textiles as donations from consumers. It focuses on their role in enabling both social and environmental sustainability and their unique way of organising their supply chains. NPOs resell donations in the second-hand market to generate funds and distribute some donations for humanitarian clothing aid. A challenge with the latter relates to redistribution of non-merchantable quality textiles to developing countries. Besides their fundraising activities, NPOs put efforts into extending textile product lifecycles and promoting their reuse. The chapter provides empirical examples from NPOs in European countries and discusses how forthcoming EU legislation is likely to further impact supply chains for post-use textiles.
